Pre Employment Psychological Testing

The Counseling Team can provide pre-employment psychological testing to help your department screen for strong candidates to proactively identify traits of desired individuals. Testing can be scheduled for sworn and non-sworn applicants for emotional stability to assess if they can safely and effectively carry out their duties during high-pressure situations. The oral and written exams are conducted by a licensed psychologist and include a written report for the department.

Frequently Asked Questions

All testing materials, pens, and pencils will be provided, and the dress code is business casual.  Water and coffee will be provided, and it is advisable to bring a snack/lunch as the candidate is not allowed to leave the premises during the written portion of the testing process.

The length of time varies between applicants. For the written portion of the testing, the average length of time is between 4-6 hours.

Typically the oral interview is scheduled no later than 5 working days after the date of the written testing process. Some departments require same-day oral interviews and those departments are responsible to notify their applicants of this arrangement.

The appointment ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour, and the dress code is business attire for the oral interview.

The written report is mailed to the respective department/agency no later than 5 working days after the oral interview. The interested department/agency has the option to request a verbal, over-the-phone score in order to expedite the process. All test result inquiries are to be directed to the department/agency.

Written and oral pre-hire psychological testing scores are valid for 1-year from the date of the written testing.

If the testing scores are still valid (less than 1-year from the date of the  written testing) then the original department will be contacted to get their approval to release the testing results. The employee will  need to sign an Authorization of Applicant form authorizing the release of their information and testing results.

If the original testing was with TCTI, then the appeal testing process would need to be administered by a different Clinical Psychologist affiliated with a different agency. If the original testing occurred with a different agency, then TCTI would be permitted to perform the appeal testing process.
